Keeping it in the family, Four Boys was launched in Spring 2023 by four local brothers, sons of Fee from the legendary Rock institution, Fee’s Food.

In a region of Cornwall packed with gastronomic heavyweights, and with Gordon Ramsay proclaiming “a new star is born in Rock” on Instagram soon after its opening, we sent our blogger, Suzie Inman, to find out what all the buzz is about…

Though it’s the new kid in town, this laid-back eatery has quickly become a local hotspot for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Expect daily-changing fish specials, fresh pasta, and locally sourced, seasonal dishes with a Mediterranean twist.

We initially went home to change after a watersports session before heading for lunch, but it wasn’t necessary. At Four Boys, everyone’s welcome—salty hair and casual beachwear fit right in.

Holiday Vibes

The moment you step into Four Boys, you’re greeted with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. It feels as if time has slowed down, life has simplified, and you can truly unwind. The ambiance is like a classic car or a sleek mid-century yacht—elegant and refined, yet effortlessly inclusive. Whether you’re part of a large family or a couple seeking a quiet meal, this space invites you to share the experience and enjoy amazing food.

Holiday vibes: the view across the estuary from the terrace

We kicked off with olives and an Aperol Spritz, soaking up the Mediterranean vibes. With the sun shining and a stunning view of the estuary from the terrace, it truly felt like a holiday. The easygoing, slow-paced lifestyle here—what locals call ‘dreckly’—captures the essence of laid-back Cornish living, blending perfectly with a Mediterranean feel.

A menu for sharing

The menu at Four Boys is designed for sharing, with dishes arriving as soon as they’re ready. The day’s market fish is always on display on a blackboard, alongside a seasonal menu that evolves throughout the year.

My husband chose the sea bass crudo—a simple yet elegant dish featuring the freshest raw fish, lightly salted and served with lemon juice and high-quality olive oil. Ours came with a scattering of broad beans and pickled lemon, a perfect example of Four Boys’ ethos: low-fuss, high-quality food that lets the ingredients shine. Despite not being a fish lover, I was pleasantly surprised—everything was so fresh and flavorful.

Next, we tried the cacio e pepe, an Italian pasta classic made with just three ingredients: handmade pasta, Italian cheese, and pepper, along with starchy pasta water. While it sounds simple, making it right is an art. At Four Boys, it was so delicious that even my eight-year-old devoured it! It’s an ideal dish to add substance to your meal and fill hungry tummies.

Finally, the anchovies from the market board arrived—silver-skinned, whole, and topped with a vibrant salsa verde that elevated their natural flavour.

From its relaxed, beachy vibe to its fresh, seasonal offerings, Four Boys excels at making guests feel at home while delivering dishes that highlight the finest ingredients. Whether it’s a post-beach family feast or a quiet lunch for two, the Mediterranean-inspired menu offers a taste of understated luxury. With its focus on quality, community, and Cornish charm, it’s no wonder Four Boys is fast becoming a local favorite.
