Looking for a high-energy, family-friendly water activity everyone can enjoy? Omnia boarding with Camel Ski School is your perfect match!

Our blogger in Rock Suzie Inman shares her adventure…

When I reached out to Camel Ski School to find the best watersport activity for my family—my husband, our eight-year-old son, and myself—Omnia boarding was the top recommendation. Never heard of it? Neither had I. But that’s about to change!

Omnia offers more movement than waterskiing and is easier for beginners than wakeboarding, making it a fantastic introduction to towed watersports for anyone aged eight and over. If you have younger children, be sure to ask about the inflatable ski trainer—ideal for building confidence in kids aged 5 to 7.

Location and Equipment

Camel Ski School is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from your Mariners Letting property in Rock. They provide wetsuits at no extra charge if you don’t have your own—just come in your swimwear as you’ll need to change on the pontoon. We recommend leaving valuables at home, but small lockers are available to rent for storing essentials while you’re on the water.

Land Training

Our adventure began with a land-based demonstration of the equipment and techniques from our friendly instructor, Arthur. We learned how to hook the tow rope to the front of the Omnia board, start lying down close to the water, and gradually rise to a low and then high kneel to enjoy the ride. I wasn’t sure I’d reach that final stage, but I was excited to try!

On the water

Next, we took a boat ride out to the middle of the estuary—a breathtaking part of the experience, offering stunning views of Cornwall from the water. Even if not everyone in your group wants to try the board, the rib boat can accommodate up to five people and a small, well-behaved dog, so you can enjoy the ride together.

Feel the ride

I was the first to take the plunge, thanks to my family’s “encouragement.” Remembering my training, I hooked the handle onto the Omnia board, grabbed the sides, and waited for the boat to pull me forward. The rush was immediate, and I was soon up on my knees, even managing a one-handed wave! Arthur kept things exciting, encouraging me to steer the board and tackle the wake. Before I knew it, my 15 minutes were up, and I climbed back into the rib, exhilarated.

When our son Ezra took his turn, I could tell he was a bit nervous at first. As an experienced sea swimmer, I’m used to cold, deep water, but it can be daunting for those who aren’t. Arthur was fantastic, offering clear instructions and encouragement. Once Ezra was on the board and the boat started pulling, my worries vanished. He navigated the wake like a pro, earning the title of “absolute natural” from our instructor. The smile on his face as he climbed out of the water said it all—he couldn’t wait to do it again!
